ALTON - A new salon on the block exudes sleekness but looks out on Old Man River.
Fringe Salon opened recently in the former Mississippi Lime building on the latest block of Downtown Alton office and retail space to undergo revitalization on Front Street.
"I saw the view, and I said, ‘I can do this,'" said owner and stylist Conya Cowan of Elsah, who formerly owned Studio One for the last 24 years.
Cowan searched for the past two years to relocate from Godfrey to the Alton riverfront. When she heard about the resurgence of a thriving downtown business district, she immediately was interested in finding a space for her latest concept salon.
"It turned out exactly how I envisioned it," she said, looking around the high-ceilinged, metro-feeling salon with its warm plum, gold and olive interior. "I decided to get a whole new vibe and feel."
